Week #2 Once Upon a Dream

Welcome back scrappers!!! Thank you so much for those that turned out for week #1. I am so grateful for the inspiration that your layouts gave me! I am looking forward to seeing what you all do with this song. Yes, it's the theme song from the Disney movie, Sleeping Beauty, but this version has a little more pep. Once again, feel free to take any line from the lyrics below to inspire your creation or just base it on the song as a whole.

Challenge #2 is being sponsored by Beatriz from the blog, Amazing Grace. Beatriz has a passion for paper crafts and we are so grateful to have her support our challenge blog this week! She has been so gracious as to offer up this gorgeous 12x12 shadow box. As if that weren't awesome enough, she's also offered to personalize it for the winner based on their favorite colors and such. Thank you Beatriz!!!!

-----------------------------------

I know you I walked with you once upon a dream
I know you the gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
I know it's true that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once the way you did once upon a dream

Once upon a time, I dreamed we'd be together...
In love forever. Once upon a night,
I was wishing for a never... A never ending.
Once upon a time, once upon a night,
Once upon a wish, once upon a dream...

I know you I danced with you once upon a night
there we were wishing that this dance would last forever all time
I hope it's true this vision is more than what it seems.
Cause if dreams come true I know what we'll do,
We'll dance once again the way we did then upon a dream

Once upon a love. Once upon a dream

DT share #2

Our DT members were late coming in this week as they were mostly selected after this challenge had gone live. So if they were able to create a project based on this week's song, they have been given the choice of sharing it with you here or entering it in the challenge.

Here is the creation shared with us by our new DT member, Jess. I think you'll all agree that it's just an absolutely DARLING!! Thank you so much for the inspiration :)

If you have been working on a layout inspired by week #1's song, Your Song by Elton John and are ready to share...please click HERE to go directly to the post where you can do that!!

Introducing your inaugural design team!!!!!

Our design team call yielded absolutely astonishing results. I think about 75% of those of you that signed up as followers the first week applied. It means so much to me that you would want to be a part of this journey with me. It was so difficult narrowing the field down to the 4 crafters I planned to have join me...so hard that I ended up only being able to narrow it down to 5! In the end, I tried to pull people who all had very different styles to give us a big variety of examples.

There was not one submission that I wouldn't have been proud to have displayed on this blog for the world to see and and at some points I was literally having to eenie meenie minie moe it. So if you were not selected, please believe me when I tell you I would LOVE to have you resubmit your app when we select a new DT in a few months!! I also hope I will get to continue seeing your work week after week entering the challenges :)

Without further ado, your inaugural design team for Scrap It With a Song (click on their names or pics to check out their individual blogs):

Hey...That's ME! I am a 30yr old stay at home mom to 3 sweet peas in Kansas. My hubby and I have a 10yr old, a 6yr old and a newborn to keep us very busy. When I'm not chasing them around, you will find me at my craft table. My first love is good old fashioned paper and scissors scrappin', but I also enjoy digi scrapping and card making. I'm a big fan of all kinds of music and I almost always have my iPod blaring when I'm feeling creative.

------------------------------

Tina

Hi there, my name is Tina and I am a SAHM of 5 boys in Knoxville, Tn. I scrap to stay sane....and sometimes it even works....lol. I have been scrapping for almost 5 years....most of that time has been spent digital scrapping, I recently renewed my love affair with paper tho and you wil see lots of those kinds of LO's from me as well. My style leans towards grungy, funky, and just plain fun. Usually I talk and blab a mile a minute but I have been put on the spot here and can't think of one single interesting thing to say......LOL.

------------------------------
Jess

I’m a 22 year old college student studying to become an elementary school teacher. I began scrapbooking after a trip to Italy when I was sixteen. As time went on I got more interested in techniques and all the wonderful products that are available out there. I love to make layouts, cards and altered projects. I try to concentrate on journaling and recording events beyond the pictures when I scrapbook. For the most part I think my style is clean and simple. I love bright strong colors and original patterns. While I love embellies I can never seem to add enough to ever make a dent in the stash I’ve collected. I find challenge blogs to be my main source of inspiration so I am so excited to be part of Scrap It With a Song and hope that all our participants will be inspired by the great challenges and DT creations!

------------------------------
Angela

My name is Angela. I am English and I have been married to the most wonderful man for 13 years now. He not only supports my crafting and scrapbooking hobby - he buys me goodies for it too. We have 3 wonderful children and I stay at home to look afterthem. I get pocket money from designing scrapbooking and crafting kits. I love digital scrapbooking, it's so addictive. My husband is addicted to taking photos, so it's a great partnership. I also love paper crafting and sometimes mix and match the 2 and create what we call a hybrid project.

------------------------------
Hannah

My name is Hannah, I'm 23 years old. When I was about 8 or 9 years old, my mom let me start my own scrapbook and over the years that hobby has morphed into this addiction to card making. I've been doing it "officially" for several years, but I've been making all kinds of crafts ever since I was little! I love using bold colors and interesting textures on my projects. My second love (or maybe they're tied!) is music--listening, playing or singing-- which is why I'm so excited about being a part of this blog!

------------------------------

Ana

My name is Ana White, and I am a stay at home mom to two little girls living in Northern VA. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Jonathan, for 4.5 years. Prior to staying at home, I was a high school teacher. I started scrapbooking while on bed rest with my first daughter about four years ago and I was warned that it was a very addictive. Well those who warned me were right; I am totally addicted to the entire process. And scrapbooking has taught me so many things- that perfection isn’t necessary and mistakes are alright.

I want to thank everyone again for showing such support to this new challenge blog. I can't wait to see everyone's amazing work. I want each challenge to inspire you to create wonderful layouts, but if the flow takes your towards a card or altered project....let it!!! I tried to select a DT with varying styles and that work in different mediums. I hope you enjoy seeing their work as much as I have the past week.

Our first DT post!!!

I will be formally introducing the new DT members tomorrow....as soon as I manage to narrow it down. I am blown away by the number of apps I received. Each and every one of them showed just how much talent we will be seeing each week from DT members AND participants!!!! I hope you all stick around to play even if you aren't chosen this time.

Our very first DT member , Tina, was able to create this fabulous layout based on the song this week, Your Song, by Elton John to share with you all!! Isn't it so fun????? I love it. If it helps inspire you to create a layout of your own, then even better. Just click HERE to post your entry :)

Stay tuned tomorrow to meet Tina and all of the rest of your new DT!!!!

Week #1 Your Song

Welcome to week one of this very exciting journey I hope many of you will take with me. So many aspects of my life have been so inspired by music and my crafting is no different. Each week there will be a new song posted for you. Let the lyrics inspire you to create. Choose a particular lyric for your title, journaling or overall theme of the layout. You are also welcome to create something besides a layout!! Full rules can be found HERE.

Challenge #1 is being sponsored by..................

................................

................................................ME!!!

Up for grabs is:

50 Prima flowers
a variety of sizes, shapes and colors

Now wouldn't they just pretty up all of your layout and card projects???

-----------------------------------

The song this week is:

Your Song - Elton John

It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you

And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen

-----------------------------------

I am so excited to see what all of you come up this week. So jump into your crafty zone and create something based on any of the lines of this week's song. Then come back and post your creation and maybe leave a comment to let me know what you think so far. You are free to participate anytime, but the deadline to be in the running for the prize is Sunday, April 25th at noon (cdt).

I jumped back and forth between 'Yours are the sweetest eyes' and creating a layout around a photo I have of my husband singing to the new baby. In the end Iused the line: "How wonderful life is, while you're in the world." as my title. I thought it was very fitting to how happy my kids are to have each other. Quite the thing to see considering how annoyed with each other most siblings seem to be...hahahaha. As soon as the design team is up and running (Have you sent in your app??? Details in the side bar) you'll have a little more eye candy to help inspire you each week, but for today you get my take on this challenge to start you off...

You have until April 25th to link up your creations !!!
If the inlinkz goes mia...feel free to link up in the comments.

24 hours and counting!!

Can you tell I'm excited??? In a little over 24 hours we will have the first ever challenge for Scrap It With a Song posted. I've just finished an example to start the challenge off and can't wait to see how our first song inspires all of you too!!! I have only set up the first month and a half of challenges, but I think so far I have chosen all contemporary songs that we have all heard a million times. If not, then you would probably recognize it once you heard it. For that reason, I will also link up a video of the song. And for those of you that are more inspired by written word, like a poem, I will also post the full lyrics.

Here is a hint for week #1's song.....it was made famous by Elton John!!!

We are also still taking apps for our inaugural design team. You can find the details by clicking the link in the left side bar. If you are interested in supporting this blog in the future by sponsoring a challenge, I'd love to hear from you!! You can find details for that in the left sidebar too :)

For anyone that feels froggy and would like to share this blog with others, here is a clickable link you can add to your blog sidebar and/or in a post. Just copy and paste the code below. :)

Are you ready to boogie?

I want to welcome you all to a new challenge blog that's all about the music that inspires us! Get ready to start the party every Monday!! I find that I use song lyrics in my layouts quite often. Music has always been something that moved me. It helps you remember moments passed and inspires you to make the moments you have mean more. I have 7 songs complete with lyrics all ready to post and just need a few crafty folks who want to let the music inspire them.

The first challenge will go live Monday morning, April 19th. I will provide a song along with the lyrics and all you have to do is scrap along with the music!! Take any part of the song and use it as your title, incorporate it into the journaling or even let the photos and embellies sing the words for you! You can view the full rules HERE, but it's pretty simple. Create a layout, card or project based on the chosen song of the week. Each week there will be 5 creations chosen to be showcased and one top winner will win a prize.

I am also interested in adding a few talented crafters to the design team to help get the party hoppin. If you think this will be great fun like I do, then subscribe and tell a friend. Heck, tell everyone you know!! Then check back here Monday morning to start the fun. :) I'd love it if you left a little love in the comments letting me know what you think :)

First Design Team Call

Here at Scrap It With a Song, we are looking for a few talented crafters to join in the fun.

------------------------------

Being a part of the DT will involve:

Designing layouts or cards (or any other crafty project you feel froggy to create) based on a given song's lyrics. You can see rules for the challenges HERE. I would like each member to be able to commit to at least 3 out of the 4 weeks each month.

Creating exclusive projects for the following month in advance. You will be given several song lyrics on the 1st and be expected to return your examples by the 20th of the month to be displayed throughout the following month. Once the challenge has gone live on our blog you will be free to share your creation on your own blog/forum.

Sharing in the task of showing blog love to any and all entries.

Promoting Scrap It With a Song on your own blog.

Participation lasting 3 months.

------------------------------

And what's in it for you, you ask:

Your work will be featured each and every week you participate along with a link back to your blog.

Your name, bloglink and photo will be posted for your entire term on the sidebar.

You will have your name and link listed on the side bar as an alumni even after your term ends.

First look at the new challenges each month.

Experience as a design team member.

------------------------------

What we need from you:

Please send an email to scrapitwithasong(at)yahoo(dot)com with your name, location, and email addy.

Include a link to your active blog or gallery.

You may also attach or directly link to (though you are also welcome to let your blog do the talkin') 1-2 of your favorite crafty creations that you think best shows your style.

Tell us a little about yourself and why you’d like to be a part of the team!

No DT experience is necessary but if you have it, flaunt it. :)

Saturday 10 April 2010

Come sing along with us....

Each week a new song will be posted. You are free to take your creativity anywhere the lyrics move you. We welcome entries that are layouts, cards, projects, etc as long as you incorporate the lyrics somehow. Journal a portion of the chorus, pick a line and make it your title or sentiment, or even let the photos and embellies sing the words for you. You can base the layout on the song as a whole or even pull out a favorite lyric and use that as a starting point....the possibilities are endless. Just make sure if you stretched the challenge a bit thin to spell out how you interpreted it so that we can all be wowed by your skills :)

To clarify a bit....an example:

Say the song was Mary Had a Little Lamb...We probably WON'T be using nursery rhymes, but for example. :) You could obviously take it literally and make a layout about someone and a sheep (think: a kid at the farm). Or you could make it a baby layout and use little sheep embellies. You could scrap about something that is white and title it or journal the phrase 'white as snow.' Or even a layout about someone waiting patiently. Whatever photos/layout/idea come to you when you hear the lyrics let it flow. Anyway the song inspires you to create!!

You are free to combine it with any and all additional challenges you would like. The only stipulation is the project must be new and created after the post date of the challenge. We would, of course, love a link back to this blog if you join in the fun. Don't have a blog? That's okay too! Just upload your creation to an online gallery of your choice and leave the link to that. Make sure you are linking directly to the post not to the entire blog so we can find it. You are also free to enter up to TWO times per week. If you create two completely different projects (yes they can both be the same medium, but must be completely different designs) feel free to enter them both to increase your chances of being chosen.

Challenges will be posted each Monday and will close the following Sunday at noon(CST). You are welcome to play along any time and share your link, but entries after the deadline will not be eligble for the contest aspect. Prior to posting the new challenge, a winner and 4 honorable mentions will be chosen. Their creations will be showcased and they will be able to display the TOP 5 award. The top winner will have 10 days to claim their prize or it will be passed to one of the others after a random draw.

Thanks for playing along with us and feel free to email me at scrapitwithasong(at)yahoo(dot)com with any questions.
